Beauty of banister

The Aesthetic Uses of Banister
Traditionally, people use banister on a porch to give it a touch of beauty; however, today in modern architecture and design, it is more used, and seen along modern staircases, which serves as a stairway’s baluster, which actually supports the handrail for that matter. Materials used for making banister include wrought iron, polystyrene/polyurethane, polymer stone, plaster, softwoods and hardwoods, cast stone and cast iron. A banister is especially used to enhance not only indoor staircases but also outdoor staircases. A grand staircase can dominate a certain room in an appealing manner. There are several types of staircases such as the spiral staircase, decorated staircase, floating staircase, etc. A normal type of staircase can actually look stunning with the addition of an extraordinary banister.

What makes a banister extraordinary? Its material plays a significant part. Wrought iron is favored by many since shaping is possible for this material. The choice of color, the sizes and line directions of the banister are important factors to consider when creating a great banister.  Generally, what a banister does is to enhance and complement the staircase. There are, however, some banisters that in an interesting way create contrast with the staircase. It may also take time to find the right banister for a certain home but as soon as the right banister is found it is all worth the time and effort. Speaking of design, when vertical lines are used for connecting the banister to the staircase this is usual, but a fascinating visual effect is produced when horizontal lines are used instead of the vertical lines. The effect is strong when strong vertical lines are set in a way that they all reach the ceiling replacing the typical banister.

When it comes to the color selection, a simple –shaped banister looks perfect when a black and white combination is used. A black multi-layered banister adds emphasis to the staircase. Banisters with curvatures make a stunning effect when they are paired with the geometrical-shaped staircases.  As already mentioned above, a banister may come in different materials and such materials may always be combined with the different shapes and colors of the staircases and the banisters. The banister, which is made of wrought iron, is an interesting match for the spiral staircase. When glass banisters are used in combination with glass staircases the effect is extremely extraordinary. A banister with a metal and glass combination is an appealing choice. Steel and wood also perfectly complement each other.
